The Suit

My mother made her first visit down to Nashville to help out with the wedding this week.  Like I stated a couple of posts ago, it has been difficult to plan the wedding without the connections that parents usually bring in.  Because of this, it was a good chance for my mother to get her feet on the ground of the current situation of the wedding.

With her in town, we were actually able to accomplish two important things – I found a suit, and made some headway on the rehearsal dinner.  I decided to buy a suit for the wedding rather than rent a tux for several reasons.  First, I don’t like wearing other people’s clothes.  I know (hopefully) that the tuxes that I have rented in the past have been fully cleaned and sanitized, but it still wierds me out.  Especially rented shoes.  Second, I can use it again.  When you rent a tux, all the money goes into the tux and you have to turn it back in.  This way, I am putting the money into a suit that I can wear to important job interviews soon.  Third, the wedding is fairly casual and a tuxedo did not seem necessary.  This way I can dress comfortably and not wear a cummerbund.

We found a great sale at Macy’s and I got a nice grey suit for a very good price.  It was actually the second suit we looked at, fit nicely, and could be worn to a variety of functions.  The first suit we looked at was dark blue or black with white checker pinstripes.  I realize that I’m from Detroit, but that doesn’t mean I have to dress like it (seriously, go to a suit shop in Detroit next time you are there and see some of the awful designs).  The only problem was that it was not on sale yet.  So they presold it for me and I have to go pick it up in a few days (not that this bothers me because I won’t wear it before the wedding).

So the suit shopping was a success.  I will show up to the wedding at least having something to wear.
