In actuality, most of the important part of the wedding planning is over. We have finished almost all of the preparation for the reception except for a DJ, we have rings bought, Diana has a wedding dress (she actually went to pick it up this afternoon), and we’ve finished the registries.
I think we’ve earned a little rest from wedding planning. But this week is Valentine’s Day, the unholy day of all things wedding related. It’s not that the sentiment supposed by Valentine’s Day is bad, but the amount of stress involved is. Usually you have to spend a large amount of money looking for a place to eat, which of course is overly crowded. This year I think that we are going to have a nice quiet evening in, eat some nice takeout, and watch some Battlestar Galactica. We are just that cool.
Driving down I-40 yesterday, I saw one of those enormous electronic billboards. On it was an add to rent out the billboard for a Valentine’s Day. What? There is nothing more clichéd then proposing on that Vday. I can’t imagine anything more tacky than proposing to someone on a giant electronic billboard on I-40 on Valentine’s Day. I don’t think anyone is ever in the mood to make major life decisions while they are waiting in traffic. Also, what if she didn’t see it or took a different route on her commute that day? You would have wasted all that money and still looked like a total tool to thousands of people. No thanks. I like my proposal. Don’t proposal on Valentine’s Day on a giant electronic billboard.
