I've Got Girly Hands

Yep, that’s totally true.  Saturday was all about finishing up a number of the things we needed to do for the wedding.  We talked to a photographer, we went ring shopping, and finished off the registry.  Today I’m going to talk about the experience of buying a ring.

To gear up for looking at wedding rings, I took some time to search around online at my favorite jewelry store.  I didn’t know what size my finger was but luckily, they had this little paper ruler that you can print out and use to measure your finger.  I tried it out and found that I was a little bigger than a size 7.  I thought this was pretty small (my fiancĂ©e is about 6.5).

Then I got to looking around at the rings on the website and realized that they all started at size 8 or 9.  So I realized that I would need to go to the store to actually look for something that actually fit my fingers.  So on Saturday we took the trip down to Shane Co., who was very helpful when I purchased Diana’s engagement ring.  One of the coolest things about going there is that they have a pod coffee maker.  If you haven’t seen one of these, it’s a  machine where you put one little foiled covered pod in the machine (it looks like a creamer thing), and then it brews you a fresh cup of coffee.  I’m always over caffeinated at that place because it’s so cool to get coffee.

So Diana’s ring was pretty easy.  She picked out a white gold one with beading one the sides.  I liked it, and it goes well with her engagement.

It took much longer for me to find a ring.  I’m glad I wasn’t proposed to because I put much more effort into style a lot of times than Diana.  I’m fine with that though since I have to wear the ring everyday for the rest of my life.  We started out with the same ring as Diana’s, but thicker.  It was fine, but kind of feminine.  We then looked at a bunch of other rings from different materials.   One of those materials was Tungsten.  I had no idea what that was so I asked.

“What’s Tungsten”

“It’s a pressed powder that doesn’t scratch easily like gold.”

“That’s pretty cool”

“But if you hit it hard enough it could shatter.”

“Oh, ok.”

“And it has no warranty.”

“Oh.”

One of the things that I will relegate myself to for the rest of my life is that I will never buy anything without a decent warranty; she is definitely a warranty master.  The rings are already warrantied and insured.  So like with Diana’s ring, I decided on the first one that we tried.  In order to make it less feminine, they said they could brush the gold (think the casing of a macbook or ipod).  So we not only found wedding rings on Saturday, but we found matching ones.  Not a bad deal.
